The last few months have been all about training for this group of seven locals. They have been working towards their “Bush Fire Fighter” qualification.
The “Bush Fire Fighter” course is the minimum qualification to be able to fight fires with the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Under the watchful eye of their senior members, they have been role playing scenarios, learning the workings of the trucks, safety methods, radio operation, team work, and all of the skills sets required to become a rural fire fighter.
This morning the Lake Cathie Rural Fire Brigade hosted the “Bush Fire Fighter” assessment. It was attended by Seven members from Lake Cathie, two from Camden Haven and one from Wauchope Brigades. The crew of ten, together with assessors and senior crew members, headed to our local oval to be assessed for their competence.
The team were relieved to have passed and look forward to volunteering in our local community.
We wish them all the best.
